Umeå Södra FF - Alviks IK 7 - 0 (3-0)
Umeå Södra: Jessica Lundberg - Anna Rehn, Petra Vaelma, Moa Westermark (46 Kristin Åberg), Ragna Lestander (60 Maria Lundqvist) - Vanessa Mångsén, Emma Sundberg, Hanna Folkesson (46 Elia Sormunen), Anna Forss (46 Patricia Hägglund) - Terese Andersson (60 Victoria Forsmark), Jennifer Nobis

Umeå Södra took a very convincing victory over 1st division side Alvik. New signing Jennifer Nobis and midfielder Anna Forss impressed most.

The last pre-season friendly

Bälinge - AIK 1 - 2 (1-0)
Bälinge:
AIK: Sofia Lundgren - Linda Lekander, Linda Sembrant, Frida Höglund, Sofia Simonsson - Louise Fors, Anne Mäkinen, Elin Ekblom Bak, Emma Lundh - Kathryn Gill, Lisa De Vanna
Goals: 1-0 Emma Jonsson, 1-1 Annica Sjölund, 1-2 Lisa De Vanna
After an anything but reassuring pre-season, Bälinge's young team made a really good performance when they hosted high-flying AIK. AIK had most of the possession and particulary in the second half pressed hard against Bälinge's goal, but Bälinge's newly formed defense with among others American Natalie Spilger and former forward Emma Lindqvist seems to be turning out well.

UEFA Women's Cup: Umeå draws Lyon

Olympique Lyon - Umeå IK 1 - 1 (0-0)
Umeå: Ulla-Karin Rönnlund - June Pedersen (81 Emma Berglund), Karolina Westberg, Johanna Frisk, Anna Paulson - Frida Östberg, Lisa Dahlkvist, Mami Yamaguchi (70 Ramona Bachmann) - Johanna Rasmussen, Madelaine Edlund, Marta
Goals: 1-0 Madeleine Edlund (57), 1-1 Louisa Necib (71)
Attendance: 12,375
Umeå IK's management had before the match claimed that there was no way they would underestimate Lyon. It still looked like this hadn't really stuck with the team. Season-wise, Umeå is still sipping their morning coffe and they looked a bit slow and unorganized in the beginning. Already after a couple of minutes Lyon's Hoda Lataff had a beamer in the crossbar and Lyon repeatedly came through on Anna Paulsson's right side. It took Umeå maybe the first twenty minutes to get their act together and stand up to the hosts. They began to get the play to the centre of the court, where Lisa Dahlqvist and Frida Östberg began to win balls and start attacks.
Lyon was throughout the match dangerous in the offensive with players like Nécib, Lattaf and Katia. For Umeå Madeleine Edlund worked extremely hard in the offense, while Marta was comparatively invisible, often double-team by the French defense. Both sides created a lot of chances and both Bente Nordby in Lyon's goal and her Swedish counter-part Ulla-KArin Rönnlund showed their best side.
Umeå's leader came after 58 minutes, when Marta showed vision, speed and skill as she raced up a ball, that the French defender just tried to guard as it rolled towards the end-line, caught it, turned her defender and served an unmarked Edlund a perfect pass. Lyon seemed a bit taken, but coach Benstiti made an offensive substitution and Lyon could equalise with a goal from the excellent Nécib.
Umeå expressed satisfaction with the result after the game: a draw and an important away goal gives them the upper hand as the two teams meet again at Umeå next weekend. Coach Jeglertz thought that Lyon looked better, but that his own team created more chances. Lyon's Benstiti on his side pointed out that his team drew against Arsenal too in the home leg, but defeated them away. They can do that against Umeå too.

Training matches: Schelin and Scasna back from injury

Kristianstads DFF - Bälinge 2 - 3 (2-2)
Kristianstad: Maria Edman (Sandra Wahldén) - Johanna Jönsson, Maria Åhlund, Johanna Rosén, Carolin Ericsson - Therese Björck, Erla Arnardóttir, Sofie Persson, Angelique Sandberg (10 Vlora Bajraktaraj) - Frida Petersson, Susanne Moberg
Bälinge:
Goals: 0-1 Emma Jonsson, 0-2 Linda Blom, 1-2 Erla Arnardottir, 2-2 Frida Pettersson, 2-3 Julia Lyckberg (PK)
On training camp in southern Sweden, Bälinge played local newcomers Kristianstad. Bälinge opened with two fast goals in textbook fashion: a cross to one of the wings, down to the endline and a pass back centre to an on-rushing forward. "We're not used to that kind of efficiency", commented Kristianstad's defender Johanna Rosén. But they learned, got better and showed that they at least will be able to be a competitor for the places just above the relegation line.
The match also saw several unfortunate injuries. Kristianstad's important midfielder Angelique Sandberg had to leave already after a few minutes with a knee injury, that will keep her out for six to eight weeks. Bälinge's American Noelle Keselica suffered a similar injury, but less severe. Both she and fellow American Joanna Lohman, who has back problems and couldn't play against Kristianstad, will miss out Bälinge's last training match against AIK on Thursday.

Glasgow City - KIF Örebro 1 - 5 (0-3)
Örebro:
Goals: Hanna Pettersson (2), Caroline Näfver, Lena Puuranen, Marina Pettersson
"We were better prepared this time", said Örebro's coach Richard Holmlund. "We knew how they would meet us and acted accordingly", he explained Örebro's bigger win in the second meeting with Glasgow. But the result might also be explained by Glasgow being forced to field several under 17's, to cover for unavailable players. Damfotboll.com: Glasgow City - KIF Örebro 1-5 (0-3)

Goals: 1-0 Sara Lindén (3), 2-1 Ingvild Stensland (44), 3-4 Lotta Schelin (90)
Yet another boy-game, this time against 16 year olds. A close match, where the result could have gone either way.
Lotta Schelin was back again after a few weeks nursing a thigh injury and seemed to be in her old goal-scoring form again.

LDB FC Malmö - Jitex BK 1 - 0 (0-0)
Malmö: Stéphanie Öhrström - Emelie Ölander, Malin Levenstad, Emma Wilhelmsson, Lina Nilsson - Therese Sjögran, Emma Stålhammar (65 Dora Stefansdottir), Nilla Fischer, Therese Lundin (65 Pavlina Scasna), Manon Melis (65 Aylin Yaren) - Maria Aronsson (55 Frida Nordin)
Goals: 1-0 Therese Sjögran (50)
Jitex, one of the tipped promotion contenders in the 1st division, looked good, particulary in defense, while Malmö seemed a bit slow and unfocused. But dress rehearsals aren't usually very good, comforted coach Jörgen Pettersson himself.
Pavlina Scasna got almost 30 minutes, showed some good moves and looked very happy: "I haven't played for five months and four days". She is still not completely restored after her ACL tear last fall, and will probably not play full 90 minute matches for a while longer, but that is just a fitness issue.

Midweek training matches: Lisa de Vanna scores again for AIK

FCR 2001 Duisburg - AIK 1 - 2
AIK:
Goals: 1-1 Lisa de Vanna, 1-2 Lisa de Vanna
AIK, on spring training camp in Germany, took the opportunity to play the currently second placed Bundesliga team FCR 2001 Duisburg. Australia's Lisa de Vanna has rejoined the team after playing a series of matches against New Zealand with the Australian national team, this time, as far as I understand, together with her Matildas teammate Kate Gill. This time, just like the last in Stockholm in February, she showed that she has what it takes to help AIK move away from the Damallsvenskan relegation zone.

Bälinge - Gusk 1 - 1
Bälinge:
Goals: 1-1 Moa Mattsson
Bälinge only managed to reach a very disappointing draw against local 2nd division side Gusk. Gusk showed a lot more will than the Damallsvenskan side and created a lot of problems for Bälinge's defense, where team captain Emma Lindqvist, a forward, had the unusual position as centre back. One of Bälinge's three American players, Noelle Keselica, has arrived and played 45 minutes. She showed that she is comfortable with the ball and has good vision, but hasn't found her place with the team yet. Bälinge has matches against Kristianstad and AIK before the league kick-off, and it looks like they will need them.

Umeå defeats Djurgården in Super Cup

Umeå - Djurgården 3 - 0 (2-0)
Umeå: Ulla-Karin Rönnlund - Anna Paulson, Karolina Westberg, Johanna Frisk, June Pedersen - Frida Östberg, Emmelie Konradsson (65 Mami Yamaguchi), Lisa Dahlkvist - Johanna Rasmussen (56 Ramona Bachman 74 red card after two yellows), Madelaine Edlund, Marta Vieria da Silva
Djurgården: Nadine Angerer - Malin Engdahl (46 Anne-Marie Norlin), Ariane Hingst, Therese Brogårde (84 Madelene Göras), Sara Thunebro - Marijke Callebaut, Linda Forsberg, Anna Hall, Linda Sällström - Jennifer Meier (46 Rebecca Johnson), Victoria Svensson
Goals: 1-0 Marta (4), 2-0 Madeleine Edlund (27), 3-0 Mami Yamaguchi (90)
Umeå played like champions in the first half, controlling the match and a two goal lead after 45 minutes felt a bit too little. Marta, who scored the first and gave the ball to Madeleine Edlund in a can't miss-position for the second goal, was great and the relentless Madeleine Edlund were a constant threat to Djurgården's goal. But the whole team played impressingly well for this time of the year.
Djurgården's new coach Anders Johansson was very dissatisfied with his team's performance, in particular the defense, and made two changes at halftime. This, and probably also a truth or two he told the team in the locker-room, made Djurgården look considerably better in the second. Nadine Angerer made some great saves and Anne-Marie Norlin was surprisingly successfull in keeping Marta from coming forward with speed. Djurgården began to win one-on-ones and managed to hold on to the ball in the offensive part of the field. When Ramona Bachmann got sent off the field after two yellow cards it even looked like Djurgården had a chance getting closer on the score-sheet, but Umeå's defense worked great and their closest chance was when Anna Paulsson had to clear the ball at the gaol-line after a set piece.
Umeå subbed in two young players in the second half with two very different endings. Ramona Bachmann came in for injured Johanna Rasmussen after 56 minutes. She was according to the rumour not pleased being benched and looked very determined to make an impression. Only seconds after she came on, she was free with Djurgården's goalkeeper, but Angerer made a great save. After that, Bachmann's determination made her unnecessary aggressive and earned herself a yellow card with a careless tackle only minutes later. Then, after a scramble for the ball ended with her and a Djurgården defender falling over each other, she pushed down the Djurgården player as she was trying to get up. A second yellow was unavoidable and Bachmann left with a very unhappy face. The other sub was the new japanese signing Mami Yamaguchi, who, one minute into extratime, took great care of a Marta pass when she turned and scored surrounded by Djurgården players.
Umeå's new team captain Frida Östberg, who did a very strong performance in midfield, was very happy with her team after the match while Djurgården's coach Anders Johansson stressed that his team is in transition and should not be regarded as a championship contender this season: "You can see that we have lost 800 Damallsvenskan matches worth of experience".

Linköping:
Goals: Cristiane (3), Jessica Landström (2), Josefine Öqvist, Ann Westermark, Charlotte Rohlin, Petra Larsson, Maja Krantz, Anna-Kaisa Rantanen, Daniela
Linköping decided to play their own farm team as part of their preparations for the season kick-off in two weeks. And the two divisions difference showed. Linköping were more or less unchallenged the whole match and got plenty of opportunities to try out different ways of attacking - 9 of their players scored.

Eskilstuna United is usually considered one of the better sides in the 1st division, but they didn't show much of that when they guested Kif Örebro. Former Eskilstuna player Kim Ekebom had a great day when Örebro almost could score at will against a timid Eskilstuna.

LDB FC Malmö - Bröndby 1 - 1 (0-0)

Goals: 0-1 Mia Olsen (75), 1-1 Maria Aronsson (77)
LDB FC's second match against the Danish champions this year ended in a draw. Even if the score was meager, and the play sometimes fairly mediocre, coach Jörgen Pettersson was pleased that his attack is looking better than last year. Malmö's equalizer was a product of the cooperation between two of his new offensive signings; Aylin Yaren setting up Maria Aronsson.
Malmö's Czech forward Pavlina Scasna is expected to make her debut for her new team in next weekend's match against 1st division club Jitex.

Newcomers Umeå Södra was very much one size to small against last year's Damallsvenskan number 5. Even if Södra kept close on the score-sheet the first 60 minutes, Sunnanå had the match in their hands. Umeå Södra were mostly in defense and only managed to challenge Sunnanå's goal a few times.

Cyprus - Kristianstad 0 - 10 (0-3)
Kristianstad: Maria Edman (46 Sandra Wahldén) - Johanna Jönsson, Johanna Rosén, Maria Åhlund (50 Vlora Bajraktaraj), Carolin Eriksson - Therese Björck (70 Marie Åstedt), Sofia Persson, Erla Arnadottir, Angelika Sandberg (Elin Bjerre) - Susanne Moberg, Frida Peterson
Goals: Susanne Moberg (2), Angelique Sandberg (2), Elin Bjerre (2), Frida Pettersson, Johanna Jönsson, Erla Arnardottír, Therese Björck
Kristianstad are having their spring training on Cyprus and met the national team of the Mediterranean island. They started a bit coutious, since they really had no idea what they were up against, but at halftime they decided to change to a 3-4-3 set-up and take every chance to practice their finishing. With a tiring Cyprus team, Kristianstad's dominance became even more evident and coach Ulf Palmquist could summarize "We were pretty efficient up front".
Women's football on Cyprus is still in it's infancy and they don't even appear on FIFA's ranking list, which would suggest that they haven't played any actual internationals yet. But there is a league, concisting of nine teams, one of which Kristianstad will meet later this week.

Umeå - Rossiyanka 1 - 0 (0-0)
Umeå: Ulla-Karin Rönnlund - June Pedersen (60 Emma Berglund), Karolina Westberg, Johanna Frisk, Anna Paulson - Lisa Dahlkvist (75 Emma Åberg Zingmark), Frida Östberg, Emmelie Konradsson (60 Mami Yamaguchi) - Marta, Madelaine Edlund, Johanna Rasmussen (60 Sofia Jakobsson).
Goals: 1-0 Marta (78)
In Umeå's third match against Russian top side Rossiyanka, they finally managed to win after two goals. They almost out-played the Russians in the first half, with a very stable defense, exact passes and fast attacks. Marta, who headed in the winner on an assist from Madeleine Edlund, said after the match that she ought to have scored two in the first half, but panicked a bit in the crowded Russian defense. Rossiyanka stepped up for a while around the hour mark, but never really threatened. The well working defense was also the thing coach Jeglerz was most satisfied with.
Both Ramona Bachmann and Hanna Ljungberg rested with minor ailments, but should be fit to play in the Super Cup against Djurgården on Easter Monday.

Hammarby played their last home friendly before taking off to spring camp in Italy. The cold and snow probably made them wish they were already there. Tyresö, by many held as favourites to win the 1st division, had a good first half but couldn't keep up with Hammarby's pace in the second.

Djurgården - Bälinge 6 - 0 (1-0)

Bälinge:
Goals: 1-0 Jennifer Meier, 2-0 Linda Forsberg, 3-0 Marijke Callebaut, 4-0 Victoria Svensson, 5-0 Sara Thunebro, 6-0 Victoria Svensson
Djurgården's last match before the Super Cup final against Umeå on Easter Monday gave some longed-for answers. That they should wear down a young Bälinge side was nothing unexpected. But Linda Forsberg looked almost completely fit after her injury and Victoria Svensson and Jennifer Meier worked really good together at top while Marijke Callebaut continurs to convince in midfield.
Bälinge's coach Zaine Söderlund was disappointed in how his team, just like against Linköping, didn't manage to stand up physically and instead lost almost every one-on-one against Djurgården.

Goals: 0-1 Lisa Dahlkvist, 0-2 Marta
Göteborg and Umeå escaped the current Swedish snow-storm and met in spring-like weather in southern Turkey. After a fairly equal first half, Umeå showed much more gusto in the second. Göteborg, missing injured Lotta Schelin, had to focus on defense where Jane Törnqvist and Marlene Sjöberg impressed. Umeå's latest signing, Japanese Mami Yamaguchi, made a good showing in her first match with the team, in spite of playing in an unfamiliar defensive midfield position. "She is well educated", commented coach Jeglertz.

LDB FC Malmö took to Denmark for a weekend match camp and started against current Danish league leaders Fortuna. Sunnanå continues to show high scoring results, but against rather weak resistance. "The result is fairly uninteresting in these matches", said coach Rainer Eskelinen. Finding the right set-up for the team is what matters at this time. he should be opleased with the number of players that scores though, the more since his main striker Perpetua Nkwocha will not join the team for a couple of weeks yet.

Linköping were the much better side and it really should have been a much bigger scoreline with a 19-4 superiority for Linköping in scoring chances. Bälinge's coach Zaine Söderlund was still unsatisfied withy his team's first half performance, when they were much too nice in the defense.

Training matches: In the shadow of Algarve Cup

In spite of the on-going Algarve Cup, a lot of training matches was played last week. Most of the teams were handicaped, having to release players to their national teams and often loaned in players from local lower division clubs to fill out the rosters.

Umeå Södra FF - Piteå IF 4 - 3 (3-3)

Umeå Södra: Sara Bjöörns (46 Lisa Eklund) - Anna Rehn, Moa Westermark, Emma Sundberg, Ragna Lestander (75 Maria Lundqvist) - Victoria Forsmark (58 Patricia Hägglund), Hanna Folkesson, Elina Sormunen (58 Maria Wictorsson), Anna Forss - Vanessa Mångsén, Linda Fransson
Goals: 1-2 Anna Rehn, 2-3 Victoria Forsmark, 3-3 Linda Fransson, 4-3 Patricia Hägglund
Umeå Södra were 1-3 behind to 1st division Piteå in the first half, but finally managed to turn it around. The match was played in falling snow and neither team made the on-lookers happy in a match were Södra seemed to lack both game-plan and structured play. Umeå Södra's goalkeeper Minna Meriluoto was with Finland in Algarve (as well as defender Petra Vaelma) and back-ups Sara Björns and Lisa Eklund (loan from Umedalen) filled in. Västerbottens Folkblad:

Kif Örebro - Västerås BK 30 2 - 0 (0-0)
Örebro:
Goals: 1-0 Elin Magnusson, 2-0 Lena Andersson
Örebro hosted 1st division newcomers Västerås and had initially problems exploiting their playing advantage. In the second half it paid off, even if a bigger score could have been expected against a team like Västerås. In the absence of Kristin Hammarström (with the national team in Algarve together with Stina Segerström and Finland's Leena Puranen), Örebro had Finnish goalkeeper Minna Kallio trying out. I can't imagine she will be competing with Hammarström, but the club is as far as I know missing a second keeper.

AIK - Tyresö 2 - 0 (1-0)
AIK: Jenny de Agé - Elin Karlsson (68 Linda Lekander), Jessica Julin, Linda Sembrant, Linda Lekander (46 Frida Höglund) - Elin Ekblom Bak, Emelie Karlsson-Wedin (46 Sofia Simonsson), Anne Mäkinen, Ingrid Bohlin (58 Anna Bohlin) - Annica Sjölund (58 Freje Egebrant), Emma Lundh
Goals: 1-0 Anne Mäkinen (36), 2-0 Emma Lundh (67)
AIK had a slow and unfocused first half aganist the 1st division team Tyresö, but still got the lead from an Elin Ekblom right wing cross that reached Anne Mäkinen at the far post. In the second half AIK showed a much better attitude, dominated on the field and out-shoot Tyresö 18-2. Still, Aik's accuracy in front of goal still leaves something to wish for, as they only managed to convert one of the many scoring opportunities, Emma Lundh breaking through the defense from the right side. I haven't seen this confirmed by the club, but from other sources it seems like Australia's Lisa De Vanna has agreed to sign and will show up at AIK's camp in Germany later this month. Goalkeeper Jenny de Agé, filling in during Sofia Lundgren's stay in Algarve, is on loan from Brommapojkarna. The club is still looking for a permanent second goalie.
AIK: Ny seger för damlaget

Jitex - Kopparbergs/Göteborg 1 - 1 (0-1)
Göteborg: Jenny Olsson - Marlene Sjöberg, Jane Törnqvist, Jenny Hallstensson (65 Elin Dahl-Örn, Maria Nilsson (65 Sofia Karlsson) - Maria Karlsson, Lisa Ek, Amelie Rybäck - Sofie Andersson, Frida Svensson (55 Catrin Johansson), Emmelie Farfa
Goals: 0-1 Frida Svensson (37)
A really bad match, commented coach Torbjörn Nilsson, nothing worked as planned, no energy in the team. A forget and move on-match. Göteborg had three players in Algarve (Lotta Schelin, Johanna Almgren and Ingvild Stensland) and Jitex is one of the top sides in the 1st division, but they really should have done better anyway. Göteborg: Oavgjort mot Jitex BK

Sunnanå - Åkullsjön 10 - 0 (6-0)

Sunnanå:
Goals: 1-0 Erika Karlsson, 2-0 Linn Lundmark, 3-0 Matilda Forslund, 4-0 Matilda Forslund, 5-0 Carina Holmberg, 6-0 Carina Holmberg, 7-0 Matilda Forslund, 8-0 Linn Lundmark, 9-0 Johanna Lindahl, 10-0 Johanna Lindahl
Sunnanå had a field day against the 2nd division team Åkullsjön and had 18-0 in shots at goal already after the first half. They used the match to try out different formations. Defender Rebacca Smith is still in rehab training and forward Perpetua Nkwocha (playing lympic qualifications with Nigeria) will not arrive in Sweden until the league starts in April.

Hammarby: Kathrin Lehmann - Malin Broberg, Elin Sölveskog, Karin Lissel, Therese Dahlberg - Jennie Jonsson, Andrea Comaneci - Kicki Bengtsson, Nazanin Vasegphanah, Emma Wall - Lisa Björkvik
Goals: 1-1 Nazanin Vaseghpanah (PK), 2-2 Nazanin Vaseghpanah, 3-2 Hanna Jonasson
Hammarby were pressed hard by 1st division side Eskilstuna United and scored the winner only minutes fom the end.

Stattena - Kristianstad 0 - 4 (0-2)
Kristianstad:
Goals: 1-0 Therese Björck, 2-0 Johanna Jönsson, 3-0 Frida Pettersson, 4-0 Elin Bjerre
Stattena was one of Kristianstad's division 1 competitors last season and, just like they did in their meetings last season, Kristianstad owned this match. Coach Ulf Palmquist was particulary satisfied with his side's speedy attacks. With the exception for Icelandic midfielder Erla Arnadottir (in Algarve), it seems like they could field their full side.
Norra Skåne: KDFF kom igen efter bottennappet

Djurgården - Tyresö 3 - 1 (3-0)
Djurgården: Sofia Åhman - Ann-Marie Norlin, Malin Engdahl, Therese Brogårde, Madelene Göras (72 Freja Hellenberg) - Marijke Callebaut, Linda Forsberg (62 Anna Lagerberth), Anna Hall, Rebecca Johnson - Mia Jalkerud (75 Malin Eriksson), Jennifer Meier
Goals: 1-0 Linda Forsberg, 2-0 Linda forsberg, 3-0 Mia Jalkerud
A fairly crippled Djurgården (five players at Algarve Cup) managed to defeat a hard working Tyresö (1st division), but often lacked power and intensity in the play. Marijke Callebaut looked good in midfield and assisted two of the goals and Linda Forsberg was back from injury, scoroing twice during her sixty minutes on the pitch.

Weekend training matches: AIK defeats Linköping, Sunnanå draws Djurgården

Sunnanå - Djurgården 2 - 2 (0-0)
Sunnanå:
Djurgården:
Nadine Angerer - Anne-Marie Norlin (60 Malin Engdahl), Ariane Hingst, Therese Brogårde, Sara Thunebro - Linda Sällström, Marijke Callebaut, Anna Hall, Rebecca Johnson - Mia Jalkerud (45 Jennifer Meier), Victoria Svensson
Goals: 0-1 Linda Sällström, 1-1 Kicki Wiklund, 2-1 Lina Johansson, 2-2 Rebecca Jonsson.
Both Djurgården and Sunnanå are at camp in Algarve, Portugal, and had arranged a training match. Sunnanå played a high pressure defense and Djurgården never got the expected grip over the match. The Damallsvenskan runners-up had problems connecting their passes and also squandered a plethora of scoring chances.

Goals: 1-0 Jenny Mellbert, 2-0 own goal, 3-0 Dora Stefansdottir
With eight players in Stockholm for the national team fitness tests, Malmö showed up with a really young team. It was still enough to convincingly defeat Danish premier side BK Skjold.

Kopparbergs/Göteborg - Frölunda P16 1 - 4 (1-0)
Göteborg: Jenny Olsson - Marlene Sjöberg, Maria Nilsson (60 Frida Svensson), Jane Törnqvist (46 Jenny Hallstensson), Amelie Rybäck (70 Elin Dahl-Örn) - Lisa Ek (70 Sofia Karlsson), Ingvild Stensland, Maria Karlsson - Emmelie Farfa (60 Sofie Andersson), Sara Lindén (70 Catrin Johansson), Johanna Almgren
Goals: 1-0 Sara Lindén (20)
Once again Göteborgs proposed opposition, this time ex-Damallsvenskan side Falköping, had to cancel as they were unable to field a full team due to injuries and sickness. Just as last time, Göteborg managed to rustle up a boy's team. Göteborg held their ground well against the much bigger players on the Frölunda side and Jenny olsson, making her first appearence for Göteborg since her signing, did well in goal. Not until late in the second half, when Göteborg had substituted half their team, did Frölunda manage to get the upper hand. All their four goals (one Göteborg own goal and one PK) came in the last 13 minutes.
Lotta Schelin didn't play as she was at the national team fitness tests in Stockholm and Jane Törnqvist had to leave at halftime with a contusion.
Göteborg: Förlust mot Frölunda P16

Hammarby: Kathrin Lehmann - Therese Dahlberg, Elin Sölveskog, Karin Lissel, Matilda Agné - Jennie Jonsson, Madeleine Tegström - Kicki Bengtsson, Nazanin Vasegphana, Daniella Chamoun - Hope
Bälinge:
Goals: 0-1 Emilia Appelqvist, 1-1 Erin Morrison, 2-1 Kristin Bengtsson
Bälinge's young midfielder Appelqvist and Lyckberg continues to impress, even if it wasn't enough against hosting Hammarby. Veteran Kristin Bengtsson, now in a forward position, and Nazanin Vaseghpanah in midfield worked hard and to give Hammarby the win.
A small contingent of Americans are currently trying out for Hammarby, goalscorer Erin Morrison is one of those.

AIK - Linköpings FC 1 - 0 (0-0)

AIK: Sofia Lundgren - Sofia Simonsson, Frida Höglund (62 Ingrid Bohlin), Linda Sembrant, Linda Lekander - Elin Ekblom Bak, Jessica Julin (62 Emelie Karlsson-Wedin), Anne Mäkinen (62 Elin Karlsson), Louise Fors - Annica Sjölund (73 Freja Egebrant), Emma Lundh
Linköping: Hedvig Lindahl - Anna-Kaisa Rantanen (46 Daniela Di Luca), Maria Svensson, Petronella Ekroth, Marie-Louise Skålberg - Maja Krantz, Petra Larsson, Daniela, Maria Karlsson (46 Josefine Öqvist) - Tilda Heimersson (46 Jessica Landström), Kosovare Asllani.
Goals: 1-0 Linda Sembrant (56)
AIK showed that they might have a really good team growing. Anne Mäkinen played her first for her new club and meant a lot when AIK measured up well to the expected top side Linköping. AIK got the winner as Anne Mäkinen shot a free-kick to the far post, where defender Linda Sembrant came rushing to score.
Brazilian midfielder Daniela made her first appearence for Linköping and "showed that she has great qualities as a player", as her coach Daniel Pettersson commented. Linköping's national team players Caroline Seger, Sara Larsson and Charlotte Rohlin rested.

Kif Örebro - Älvsjö AIK 6 - 0
Örebro:
Goals:
Maria Nordbrandt (2), Maria Hammarström, Elin Magnusson, Lena Pettersson, Lena Puranen
A step up compared to the 4-1 win over Jitex was midfielder Maria Nordbrant's opinion, good pace and variation was coach Holmlund's verdict and the local paper even called the performance "a little bit impressing".

And an old midweek scrimmage:

Åhus P16 - Kristianstad 3 - 1 (1-1)
Kristianstad: Sandra Wahldén - Johanna Jönsson (46 Carolin Ericsson), Ulrika Severin (46 Maria Åhlund), Johanna Rosén (46 Vlora Bajraktaraj), Victoria Falk (46 Marie Åstedt) - Pernilla Falk (46 Therese Björck), Sofie Persson (46 Madeleine Andersson), Erla Arnardóttir, Angelique Sandberg (46 Maria Nilsson) - Veronica Persson, Susanne Moberg (46 Elin Bjerre)
Goals: 1-1 Susanne Moberg
Kristianstad played a local boy's team. They opened slow and got behind early, but worked themselves back in the match and had the better chances getting the lead. At halftime there were extensive substitutions and Åhus got two fast goals before Kristianstad could stabilize their play.

Bälinge IF - Danmarks IF 4 - 1 (2-0)
Bälinge:
Goals: 1-0 Ida Brännström, 2-0 Sarah Storck, 3-0 Alexandra Höglund, 4-1 Anna Torstensson
Bälinge played their main local rivals, 1st division top side Danmarks IF. Coach Zaine Söderlund found his players surprisingly spirited, taken in account the heavy training they're doing at the moment. Bälinge was the clearly better side with defender Lina Andersson as one of the most decisive players.

Training match: LDB Malmö defeats Brøndby

Brøndby - LDB FC Malmö  0 - 1 (0-1)
Malmö: Stephanie Öhrström ? Therese Jönsson, Malin Levenstad, Emma Wilhelmsson, Emelie Ölander ? Nilla Fischer ? Frida Nordin (65 Manon Melis), Therese Lundin (70 Aylin Yaren), Emma Stålhammar, Therese Sjögran ? Maria Aronsson (45 Dora Stefansdottir)
Goals: 0-1 Frida Nordin (9)
LDB FC Malmö went over the bridge to Copenhagen for their traditional preseason friendly with Danish perennial champions Brøndby. It started a bit slow on the wet pitch, but it grew to an ok match "from time to time even really good", commented Malmö's coach Jörgen Pettersson. He was particulary pleased with the defense, that didn't let the Danish side get a single real scoring opportunity.

Big and narrow wins for Umeå in Vaasa tournament

Umeå IK took the ferry to Finland (a rather rocky ride by the way - some players had problems keeping down their food) to participate in the Vaasa Women's Winter Tournament, played in the big Botnia Hall on a full size field. Umeå, and more accurately Marta, was the big attraction while the rest of the field was made up by Finnish teams. It was a somewhat worn Umeå team that went to Vaasa, coming directly from a heavy training period with a lot of minor strains and bruises, but it looks like most of them played, except for injured Elaine and Johanna Rasmussen.

FC Sport - Umeå IK 0 - 11 (0-5)
Umeå: Carola Söberg - Anna Paulson, Karolina Westberg, Johanna Frisk (50 Emma Berglund), June Pedersen - Frida Östberg, Lisa Dahlkvist (50 Emmelie Konradsson), Emma Åberg-Zingmark - Ramona Bachmann, Madeleine Edlund (50 Sofia Jakobsson), Marta (70 Louise Sahlman)
Goals: 0-1 Madeleine Edlund (10), 0-2 Marta (13) 0-3 Lisa Dahlqvist (30), 0-4 Lisa Dahlqvist (40), 0-5 Marta (45), 0-6 Madeleine Edlund (46), 0-7 Marta (50), 0-8 Frida Östberg (58), 0-9 Frida Östberg (56), 0-10 Frida Östberg (70), 0-11 Ramona Bachman (90)
Umeå played the local side, FC Sport, on Friday evening. Fc Sport is at home in the lower ragions of the Finnish league and never had a chance. Umeå played relaxed and used the opportunity to train their attacking game. "I'm happy that so many players scored and that we could give a lot of the younger players time on the field", Jeglerz commented.

FC Honka - Umeå IK 2 - 3 (1-1)
Umeå: Carola Söberg - Anna Paulson, Karolina Westberg (55 June Pedersen), Johanna Frisk, Emma Berglund - Frida Östberg, Hanna Ljungberg (60 Emma Åberg-Zingmark), Lisa Dahlkvist (80 Emmelie Konradsson) - Sofia Jakobsson (65 Ramona Bachmann), Madeleine Edlund, Marta
Goals: 1-1 Hanna Ljungberg (24), 2-2 Marta, 2-3 Marta (PK)
Honka are reigning Finnish champions and really should be able to stand up better than FC Sport did, but this was maybe even harder than Umeå had expected. Honka took the lead as team captain Maija Saari scored on a free-kick from 30 meters. Hanna Ljungberg (playing 60 minutes and feeling fine) headed in the equaliser from a Lisa Dahlkvist corner-kick, but early in the second half Saari could score again, putting Honka ahead. Marta set it even with a trade-mark solo rush and also scored the winner on a penalty kick.
Coach Jeglertz was pleased with his attack, that had 20 shots at goal, but said they were too passive in the defense. And personally I would say that 3 goals from 20 tries isn't really the way it should be either.

Djurgården - Djurgården P15 2 - 3 (2-2)
Djurgården: Nadine Angerer - Malin Engdahl (46 Anne-Marie Norlin), Ariane Hingst, Therese Brogårde, Sara Thunebro - Linda Sällström, Marijke Callebaut, Anna Hall, Rebecca Johnson (80 Linda Hybinette) - Mia Jalkerud, Victoria Svensson (88 Malin Engdahl)
Goals: 1-2 Rebecca Johnson, 2-2 Victoria Svensson
Djurgården met their club's 15 year old boys in a well played match. It was a high paced game and the result could have gone either way. Rebecca Johnson scored friom a Linda Sällström assist and Victoria Svensson put a free-kick directly in goal. Djurgården had a few players on the sick-list, among them Linda Forsberg and Jennifer Meier, and had to loan a few players from Älvsjö to fill out the roster.

Kopparbergs/Göteborg - Örgryte P16 1 - 2 (0-0)
Göteborg: Sandra Bjurteg - Amelie Rybäck (72 Maria Nilsson), Jane Törnqvist, Jenny Hallstensson, Sofia Karlsson (66 Marlene Sjöberg) - Johanna Almgren, Catrin Johansson (60 Lisa Ek), Ingvild Stensland, Sofie Andersson - Sara Lindén, Emelie Farfa
Goals: 1-2 Jane Törnqvist (90)
The planned match against 1st division Öster had to be cancelled, as a virus had hit the would-be guests. Instead, local top side Örgryte's 16 year old boys provided the opposition. Örgryte is a much better boy's team than the Jonsered side Göteborg routed two weeks ago. It was a tough and fast match, which gave the Göteborg team a great test.
Newly signed veteran defender Jane Törnqvist was exactly as good as coach Torbjörn Nilsson expects her to be: "She will be important for us, and I hope she will be in competition for a place on the national team to the Olympic Games". "We'll see about that", comments Törnqvist, "but right now I'm focusing on Göteborg and nothing else".
Lotta Schelin, who probably could have turned the game into Göteborg's favour, was in the stands, enjoying her rest after the Cyprus camp with the Sweden team.

Bröndby - Kristianstads DFF 3 - 1 (3-0)
Kristianstad:
Goals: 1-3 Susanne Moberg
Danish league leaders Brøndby was clearly one size to big for Kristianstad, but coach Ulf Palmquist was happy that they managed to win the second half. "We could see that we were able to keep up with them", but the team was much to careless in the first half, often missing the crucial last pass. Kristianstad used their junior keeper Emelie Karström in goal, since both their other keepers had to rest with minor injuries.

KIF Örebro - Jitex 4 - 0 (2-0)
Örebro:
Goals: 1-0 Elin Magnusson (25), 2-0 Marie Hammarström (42), 3-0 Hanna Petersson (85), 4-0 Sanna Valkonen (87)
Örebro hosted 1st division side Jitex, usually considered one of the main candidates for promotion to Damallsvenskan. The match was closer than the scoreline would suggest, but Örebro had the upper hand throughout the entire game. Caroline Näfver impressed at her left wing position.

Tyresö - Bälinge 0 - 5 (0-2)
Bälinge:
Goals: 0-1 Emma Lindqvist, 0-2 Emma Jonsson, 0-3 own goal, 0-4 Emilia Appelqvist, 0-5 Alexandra Höglund
Bälinge's first training match was against 1st division side Tyresö, a very ambitious newcomer that has signed several former Damallsvenskan players. Bälinge played with a midfield mainly made up by 17 year olds (Jenny Jansson, Julia Lyckberg and Emilia Appelqvist), as they are still waiting for their American reinforcements to arrive, and still totally dominated a surprisingly weak Tyresö side.
Bälinge's coach Zaine Söderlund was of course pleased with the performance, not the least with the number of goals, as converting scoring chances usually isn't Bälinge's strongest side.
Damfotboll.com: Tyresö - Bälinge 0-5

Hammarby Damfotboll - Älvsjö AIK 3 - 1 (2-0)
Hammarby: Lisa Mattsson - Therese Dahlberg, Elin Sölveskog, Karin Lissel, Matilda Agné - Jennie Jonsson, Andrea Comaneci - Kicki Bengtsson, Nazanin Vasegpanah, Daniella Chamoun - Lisa Björkvik
Goals: 1-0 Kristin Bengtsson, 2-0 Daniella Chamoun, 3-1 Daniella Chamoun
In spite of their very tired legs from the tough training period, Hammarby's players defeated 1st division top side Älvsjö. Sara Johansson and Hodan Siid-Ahmed are still working on coming back from their injuries and Anna Lindblom rested after being on Cyprus with Sweden, but otherwise Hammarby could field most of their first selection. Kristin Bengtsson was back in a forward position together with Daniella Chamoun and both were successful, backed up by a spirited Nazanin Vaseghpanah in midfield.

AIK - HJK Helsinki 5 - 0 (2-0)

AIK: Sofia Lundgren - Sofia Simonsson, Frida Höglund, Linda Sembrant, Elin Karlsson (67 Linda Lekander) - Elin Ekblom Bak, Jessica Julin, Emelie Karlsson-Wedin (67 Ingrid Bohlin), Louise Fors (77 Anna Bohlin) - Lisa De Vanna, Annica Sjölund (46 Emma Lundh)
Goals: 1-0 Lisa De Vanna (12), 2-0 Annica Sjölund (34), 3-0 Lisa De Vanna (59), 4-0 Lisa De Vanna (76), 5-0 Lisa De Vanna (86)
After three defeats in a row, this is looking better for AIK. Now, most damallsvenskan sides are better than the Finnish top three side HJK, but this is still a very good result and HJK were outplayed in the first half (8-1 in shots on goal). Elin Ekblom has finally been put in her right place, on the wing, and made two of the assists to De Vanna's goals. And De Vanna! Seems like one of the most impressing debuts for a Damallsvenskan side in a long time. And I'm pleased to see, that she actually played the entire 90 minutes. Maybe it's more coaching than fitness that keeps her on the bench as a super-sub in Australia's national team.
AIK's head coach Benny Persson (who, true to style, got himself expelled to the stands) said that AIK has been trying to keep De Vanna's arrival under wraps and that she arrived in Sweden only last Wednesday. He is very pleased with her signing: "She will bring unique qualities to the team".

Linköpings FC - BK Kenty HJ 1 - 2 (1-1)
Linköping:
Goals: 1-1 Caroline Seger (PK)
Josefine Öqvist's come-back was the big attraction when Linköping took on a local junior team (17-18 year old boys). She came on in the second half and looked like her old self, but didn't take any risks against the boys: "they were so damned big". Coach Daniel Pettersson was pleased in spite of the loss: "We focused on the defense and it worked really well.

Hammarby: Lisa Mattsson - Agnes Jörnung, Elin Sölveskog, Karin Lissel, Matilda Agné - Jennie Jonsson, Therese Dahlberg - Kicki Bengtsson, Madeleine Tegström, Johanna Deol - Nazanin Vasegphanah
Goals: 1-0 Marijke Callebaut, 2-0 Marijke Callebaut, 3-0 Marijke Callebaut, 4-0 Jennifer Meier, 5-0 Rebecca Johnson
Some of us have had our doubts about the 2008 version of Djurgården, but they have at least proved that they are preseason Stockholm champions. A very convincing win over Hammarby was added to the earlier defeat of AIK. Most of their big names made their season premiere, Hingst, Svensson and Forsberg all after minor injuries have kept them out of the first matches. In the case of Forsberg the return was maybe a bit early. She had to leave already after 20 minutes and was, very successfully, replaced by former Hammarby midfielder Marijke Callebaut. She scored a hat-trick in the first with Victoria Svensson building up to all of the three goals.
Most things went Djurgården's way, but it probably had something to do with the very weakened Hammarby side, that had to fill out the squad with 5 players from the development team.

Sunnanå: Eva Nilsson - Sandra Berggren, Mirjam Marklund, Alexandra Nilsson, Carina Holmberg - Johanna Lindahl, Josefin Johansson, Anna Bodén, Kicki Viklund - Lina Johansson, Erika Karlsson
Goals: 1-0 Lina Johansson, 2-0 Lisa Renberg, 3-0 Lisa Renberg

Goals: 0-1 Josefin Johansson, 0-2 Carina Holmberg, 0-3 Carina Holmberg

Sunnanå played in the traditional indoor tournament in the full size Arcus-hallen in nearby Luleå, meeting a Norwegian and a Swedish second tier team. Sunnanå, forced to keep usual starters Åsa Berglund, Rebecka Smith and Maggie Esseryd on the sidelines, predictably dominated the event. New coach Rainer Eskelinen had to try out a completely new defense, where midfielder Carina Holmberg, now on left back, impressed most.

AIK were missing keeper Sofia Lundgren, defender Linda Sembrant and midfielder Anne Mäkinen from what should be their first choice starting line and had to loan a couple of players from their cooperation club Brommapojkarna. Training matches: Convincing victory for Malmö over South Africa

South Africa - LDB FC Malmö 1 - 3 (1-1)
Malmö: Stephanie Öhrström - Therese Jönsson, Emelie Ölander, Emma Wilhelmsson, Lina Nilsson (77 Lina Rehov) - Dora Stefansdottir - Manon Melis, Therese Lundin, Therese Sjögran, Emma Stålhammar (15 Antonia Göransson, 46 Aylin Yaren) - Maria Aronsson
Goals: 1-1 Therese Lundin, 1-2 Emma Wilhelmsson, 1-3 Emma Wilhelmsson
LDB FC Malmö, on training camp in KwaZulu-Natal, played South Africa's national team, who were using the match to gear up before the Olympic qualification match against Nigeria on Saturday. It was a fast game on a hard pitch and Malmö fell behind already after 15 minutes when South Africa scored on a direct free-kick. But Malmö managed to take the command and Therese Lundin equalised ten minutes later assisted by Therese Sjögran. In the second half Malmö's dominance continued and defender Emma Wilhelmsson scored twice on set pieces.
Coach Jörgen Pettersson was pleased with his team's performance: "It was a difficult team to meet. In Sweden we know how all the other teams play, here we had to try to play without that knowledge and it was a good thing to experience". Malmö used all available players in the match, but with 3 players at Cyprus with the Swedish national team and several others (among them Sweden goalkeeper Caroline Jönsson and Czech attacker Pavlina Scasna) on "the ACL crew", as the club's travel diary calls them, maybe not more than half the starters in this match will start in the league matches later this spring.

The Malmö team will be working with two schools close to Thanda, where they have been staying.

AIK ae still losing to both their Stockholm rivals, last week to Djurgården and this weekend to Hammarby. But competition seems to be closer than last year, even if you shouldn't rely too much on early preseason matches. As usual in the early matches several starters in both teams were missing for various reasons and both teams used players from their development teams and farm teams. Nazanin Vasegpanah scored on her old club, Mäkinen got her first minutes for her new club but Elin Ekblom was the dominating figure on the field and might prove to be AIK's most important signing this season.

Göteborg played a local team of 15 years old boys and had a field day - 9 goals from 7 different players. Jonsered, which actually has pretty good boys teams, is coach Torbjörn Nilsson's first club and some 40 years ago he would have played on the P15 team.

Göteborg's scoreline is now 15-1 after the first two training matches. Time to look up some real competition?

Åsum HJ - Kristianstads DFF 2-1 (0-1)
Kristianstad: Maria Edman - Johanna Jönsson, Maria Åhlund, Johanna Rosén, Carolin Ericsson - Virre, Veronica Persson, Vlora Bajraktaraj, Maria Nilsson - Frida Pettersson, Elin Bjerre
Goals: 0-1 Frida Pettersson
Kristianstad played the local men's club Åsum's junior team (usually 17 year old boys), and it worked well in the first half with their starting defense line. Several half-time substitutions made the team weaker, but coach Thomas Mårtensson was happy with the performance.

IK Gauthiod - Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC  1 - 6 (1-5)
Göteborg: Sandra Bjurteg - Amelie Rybäck, Jane Törnqvist, Maria Nilsson (73 Jenny Hallstensson), Marlene Sjöberg - Maria Karlsson, Lisa Ek, Johanna Almgren (68 Catrin Johansson) - Emelie Farfa, Sara Lindén (60 Sofie Andersson), Lotta Schelin

A big win is only what is expected by a team like Göteborg when playing a side from the lower half of the 1st division. Coach Torbjörn Nilsson was still very pleased with his players performance in the first half, when they played with a lot of energy. The second half was more complacent, but the fact that they came to the evening match directly from an afternoon training session probably contributed to make it less energetic.

Training match: Linköping debutant scores hat-trick

Hammarby - Linköping FC  1 - 3 (0-3)
Hammarby: Kathrin Lehmann (Lisa Mattsson) - Emma Wall (Malin Paulsson), Karin Lissel, Malin Nilsson, Therese Dahlberg (Agnes Jörnung) -  Andrea Comaneci, Jennie Jonsson - Malin Broberg (Kicki Bengtsson), Nazanin Vasegphanah, Madeleine Tegström - Lisa Björkvik
Linköping:
Goals: 0-1 Lisa Nilsson, 0-2 Lisa Nilsson, 0-3 Lisa Nilsson, 1-3 Lisa Björkvik
One of Linköping's winter signings, 20 year old Lisa Nilsson from 1st division side Dalsjöfors, scored three goals for her team in a first half, that Linköping dominated over a Hammarby, that seemed to have problems getting into match spirit. It worked better for the hosts in the second, but Linköping also handicapped themselves with a copule of their substitutions.
The match was played in falling snow and, as usual in these early friendlies, several of the teams more experienced players rested. Linköping's Josefine Öqvist and Caroline Seger are still not quite fit after their surgeries and Hammarby's Annica Svensson and Sara Johansson had similar reasons to stay on the sidelines. Hammarby also missed their newest ibnternational, Anna Lindblom.
