Bitter Olympic exit for Sweden

Holding Germany tied for 90 minutes isn't a small feat, but since it always seems to end with Germany scoring in extratime (2001 and 2003 are earlier examples), it just leaves a bitter taste of defeat. Sweden stood up pretty well in a rather typical Sweden-Germany match, close, physical, decided on set pieces. Not until extra-time, when things began to fall apart for Sweden, did Germany look like clear winners. Dennerby's offensive substitutions after 10 minutes of extra-time was the right way to go, but didn't help.
Both Therese Sjögran and Victoria Svensson said that this was their last Olympics, but none of them commented on next year. Coach Thomas Dennerby will stay on - he got a declaration of confidence from the Swedish FA almost immideately after the match - but I think that we will be in trouble if next year's European Championships ends in anything like the two championships he has coached the Swedish side. Marika Domanski Lyfors reached at least the semifinals 2003-2005, Dennerby hasn't managed after his first two tries. Even if the Football Association is patient, I don't think he can afford third failure.

Cristiane had a great game against Germany, maybe better than Marta. She always excels when playing for Brasil, can't understand why she isn't sucessful in the foreign leagues. By the way, was this game broadcasted in Sweden?

All the important matches has been broadcast in Sweden and I've seen a couple of Brazil games.

Cristiane hasn't been bad in Linköping, but she hasn't excelled either. As far as I can see the only reason why Cristiane is so much better in Brazil than she has been in her various club teams is that she gets to play with Marta.

Could be, but it's not like she's spoon-fed by Marta all the time. She's able to create chances for herself and her teammates (first goal against Germany comes to mind).

And after watching Madeleine Edlund's performance at the UEFA Cup final, I can say the opposite is true. I bet Marta have missed Cristiane really bad.

No, no spoon-feeding. I think when Marta and Cristiane plays together, they create a movement in attack that is beneficial for both of them.

Edlund, on the other hand, is a completely different player. She scores from being in the box or coming running into the box, often assisted by Marta. And she scores more than both Marta and Cristiane.
