Players and coaches favours Umeå to win

Damallsvenskan had their annual season start press meeting yesterday, with the head coach and a couple of players representing each club. They talked to the press, the new league trophy was presented and they did the traditional poll. 65% of the players and coaches has Umeå as favourites, 25% Djurgården/Älvsjö and then there were the odd vote for Linköping, Malmö and KIF Örebro. On the other hand QBIK, Själevad and Mallbacken were voted most likely to be relegated. Mallbacken's coach commented "They do that to us every year. Somehow we usually still manage to stay."

Damallsvenskan seems, sine the addition of several players from the Olympic finalists USA and Brasil, to be advertising itself as "The best league in the world". Maybe a coincidence, but the new league trophy, Crown Princess Viktoria's Cup, has a globe at the top.

The Damallsvenskan is the best league in the world, even without the Americans and Brazilians. Since the breakup of the WUSA, it has been. The Bundesliga is second and the Toppserien is third.
