Bälinge signs former US U21-player

Newcomers Bälinge IF has signed the 23 year old american midfielder Julianne Sitch, who has 6 matches with the US U21 team on her resume. Bälinge's coach Magnus Wikman says Sitch has been on his shortlist for a while and will be a key player for the team. Sitch played college football at De Paul University and has played in the north american A-league with Chicago Cobras and Hampton Roads Pirhanas.

Bälinge used Wikman's US network already last season, when attacker Annette Kent, defender Fanta Cooper and goalie Jenni Brannam helped the team secure promotion to Damallsvenskan.

Josefine Öqvist resigns with Linköping

After a long wait and probably not entirely uncomplicated negotiations, it was today announced that national team attacker Josefine Öqvist has signed a new one year contract with her club Linköping FC. Öqvist has been petitioned by several other clubs, among them KIF Örebro and Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC, but eventually decided to stay with Linköping.

Earlier this week a Linköping long-timer, defender/midfielder Malin Gustafsson, decided to leave the club since she couldn't accept the financial part of the offer the club proposed. "I would lose to much money if I accepted the club's bid". The 26-year old will probably leave top football.

Yet another Nigerian signs for QBIK

QBIK has signed Nigerian international defender Yinka Kudaisi. Late last year the club got Kudaisi's Nigeria team mates Maureen Mmadu and Faith Ikidi from Norwegian premier side Klepp.

Including their German striker Jennifer Meier, QBIK now has four full time professionals on the squad. But the club chairman Lars-Inge Hallstenson doesn't worry: "We've got sponsors for each player and our own finances are pretty good as well. Last season we spent SEK 5 million and I think we will reach 7 million this year."

Newcomers Jitex signs Sweden U21 players

Jitex, just promoted to Damallsvenskan from 1st division, has signed two players with experience from Sweden's U21 and other youth natiuonal teams; Amelie Rybeck from the 1st division side Holmalund and Emma Herbring from KIF Örebro. Herbring's move was partly motivated by her boyfriend Ola Toivonen (also a U21 player) being signed by the men's premier league side Örgryte. Örgryte is like Jitex in the Göteborg area.

They got relegated from Damallsvenskan 1997 and even folded operations 2001. But the club restarted the year after and is now back in the highest division.

Själevad's Sanna Frostevall goes to Sunnanå

Sanna Frostevall, relegated Själevad's main star, has decided to accept an offer from Sunnanå. The 26-year old has mainly played centre defense at Själevad but will probably find another position with Sunnanå, as Hanna Marklund and Rebecca Smith was a very successfull duo last season.

Sanna is the second player to leave Själevad for Sunnanå. Late last year the young forward Emma Jonsson signed for the northern club.

Denmark's captain has signed for Djurgården/Älvsjö

Katrine S Pedersen, Danish national team captain and last with Norwegian third place Fløya, has signed a one year deal with Djurgården/Älvsjö with an option for another year. The Swedish Cup champions have also agreed on 2 year contracts with Norwegian national team goalkeeper Bente Nordby and Danish national team defender Dorte Dalum Jensen, but they are still under contract with Norwegian Asker FK. Djurgården/Älvsjö has been in negotiations with Asker and so has the Norwegian players union, since there is a conflict between the players and Asker concerning unpaid player compensation. Djurgården/Älvsjö's chairman expects all three to be present when the preseason training starts next week.

Djurgården/Älvsjö in negotiations over Nordby and Dalum Jensen

Djurgården/Älvsjö has today been negotiating the conditions for the transfer of Norwegian goalkeeper legend Bente Nordby and Danish international defender Dorte Dalum Jensen with their financially stricken Norwegian club Asker FK. Asker, that today recieved the anticipated decision from the Norwegian FA's licensing board that this year's Norwegian Cup winners does not qualify for a licence for the 2006 season, seems ready to part with Nordby and Dalum Jensen, but wants to get as much money out of the deal as possible. Asker's price for Nordby's contract alone is rumoured to be somewhere close to NOK 100,000. The negotiations are set to continue tomorrow.

Djurgården/Älvsjö, that have lost several players since the season ended, is close to signing a third player from the Norwegian league, Fløya's Danish national team defender Katrine S Pedersen. Yolanda Odenyo leaves AIK

AIK's strong defender Yolanda Odenyo, who has several caps for the national youth teams, has left for college studies in USA, AIK's head coach Christer Söderberg reveals in an interview at AIK's website.

Players leaving

Djurgården/Älvsjö's midfielder Ingrid Bohlin and Hammarby's midfielder Hanna Olsson has both played their last Damallsvenskan match for the season. They are both leaving for studies in the USA. Hope they've found colleges with good soccer programs.

Edit: I just found out that Hanna Olsson is going to Northeastern University to play with the Huskies. I think that's a pretty good team.

Kopparbergs/Göteborg's midfielder Therese Bjurenlind goes on loan to 1st division side Jitex.

With Bohlin's leaving, Malin Nykvist's time-out and Marijke Callebaut's transfer to Hammarby, there are now only 17 players left on Djurgården/Älvsjö's squad. They really ought to find reinforcements before they go into the UEFA Women's Cup qualifacations in September.

The news on Bohlin was found in
Dagens Nyheter's article on Jane Törnqvist and Turbine Potsdam, Hanna Olsson was mentioned in a Hammarby match report and Bjurenlind at Kopparbergs/Göteborg fan site Kopps.

The Törnqvist - Potsdam affair revisited

The usually reliable German football magazine Kicker didn't do the neccesary footwork - in their season start issue they have Jane Törnqvist listed for Turbine Potsdam, in spite of the fact that it is more than a month since the transfer came to naught. But Swedish leading daily Dagens Nyheter picked up the "news" and the good side is that we now have comments from the Swedish side. Djurgården/Älvsjö's chairman Per Darnell confirms that the club gave Turbine permission to talk to Jane. Jane says there were talks, she found the proposition exciting but it never came to an actual deal being presented. And anyway this wasn't a good time to leave Stockholm and Djurgården. But, she continues, it would be fun to try out another league and she likes German football.

New goalkeeper to Själevad to replace injured Anna Hofwing

Anna Hofwing suffered a serious knee injury in Själevad's draw against Linköping this weekend. It's is probably some kind of cartilage damage, but further medical investigations this week will tell for sure. To be on the safe side Själevad has decided to take home Sandra Fahlén, who has been on loan to 2nd division team Husum.

Marijke Callebaut leaves Djurgården/Älvsjö

Marijke Callebaut, belgian midfielder with national team experience, has decided to leave her club Djurgården/Älvsjö and join Stockholm competitor Hammarby. Callebaut has mostly come from the bench in the matches she has played in her one and a half years with the club. Her contract with Djurgården allowed her to change clubs during the transfer period. Papers with Hammarby will be signed in the week to come.

Callebaut revealed her thoughts about changing clubs already this winter in an
interview with a belgian football site.

Two americans to Mallbacken?

Last month Mallbacken announced that they've signed the american college player (UCLA Bruins) Lindsay Greco, after she had spent some time with the team on trial. She will join the team July 25 and she will bring another player with her, Whitney Jones. Jones is a defensive midfielder and was Greco's teammate at UCLA. "She will get a try-out with the team and then we'll decide if she is good enough", says Mallbacken coach Glenn Johansson.

It seems like it is not a question about professional contracts with these players. Just like with the recent college graduates that QBIK (Sarah and Annie Hawkins from Gonzaga University) and Hammarby (Maureen Metzger and Lindsay Demaree from Yale) has signed, it seems like getting to play a couple of months in Damallsvenskan is interesting enough in itself.
