Damallsvenskan turnover grows rapidly
The combined 2004 turnover for the Damallsvenskan clubs was SEK 39 millions, a 46% growth from 2003, says the yearly financial report from the Swedish Football Association that was released today. Ticket sales were up 63% and incomes from sponsoring and advertising grew 70%. Damallsvenskan has been growing steadily for several years now, but a lot of the big step up in 2004 can be attributed to the growth in attention following Sweden's successfull 2003 World Cup run.
Umeå IK is the by far biggest club financially with a close to SEK 10 millions turnover, but Djurgården/Älvsjö is growing fastest, doubling their 2003 incomes to reach SEK 3,7 millions.
Other interesting figures: UEFA Women's Cup is a big source of income - if you reach the final. Umeå made SEK 1 million, while Djurgården/Älvsjö and Malmö FF that also participated in the tournament last year didn't make any money. The average compensation for a Damallsvenskan player was SEK 24,000 - more than twice as much as the year before.
