Umeå to play UEFA Women's Cup in Norway

When Umeå IK enters the UEFA Women's Cup at the second group stage, they will play Kolbotn IL (Norway), Legend Chernigov (Ukraine) och Espanyol Barcelona (Spain). The group will be hosted by Kolbotn, just outside Oslo. Umeå's offer to host the group was turned down, to some disappointment from the management. "This is mostly a financial issue for us", says general manager Roland Arnqvist. The difference between hosting the event and going away might be as big as SEK 500,000, he says.

There is a geographical reason for not putting the group play in Umeå - Oslo has much better communications. And the long running argument about Umeå's artificial field turf might also have played a part in the decision.
