Qbik's Nigerians jumped ship
Qbik will have to try to escape relegation without their Nigerian internationals Maureen Mmadu, Faith Ikidi and Yinka Kudaisi. They disappeared from their home in Karlstad last Friday.
"I don't know where they are, but they have probably returned to Nigeria", says Qbik chairman Lars-Inge Hallstenson.
Mmadu, Ikidi and Kudaisi were, as previously reported, called up by Nigeria for the Africa Championships that starts next weekend. In the conflict between Qbik and the Nigerian FA that followed, FIFA decided that the Swedish club didn't have to release the players.
The players didn't show up for training on Friday, two days after the FIFA ruling, and haven't been heard from since. Qbik's Hallstensson states that the club considers the players in breach with their contracts, which will be cancelled. Qbik will also inform FIFA and the Nigerian FA about the breach of contract, which might affect their playing eligibility.
With Qbik only 1 point up to safety in Damallsvenskan, the season final, against fellow relegation candidate Mallbacken, next weekend will be crucial. Qbik will now have to win points without three of their starters. "We will prepare our best, but it will be a tough match", says coach Kjell Petersson.
