Malmö contracts entire starting eleven for 2008
LDB FC Malmö announced at a press conference today, that they have signed contracts for 2008, and in most cases one or more years beyond that, for ten players. This impressing showing of financial muscle includes 4 Swedish national team players: Therese Sjögran (until 2009), Nilla Fischer (2010), Frida Nordin (2008) and Therese Lundion (2008); five Sweden U21 players: Emma Wilhelmsson (2010), Lina Nilsson (2010), Malin Levenstad (2009), Nera Smajic (2009) and Emma Stålhammar (2008); and Dutch national team forward Manon Melis (2009). Already last year Caroline Jönsson and Therese Jönsson signed contracts for 2008, so this means that all Malmö's starters already are tied to the club for 2008 or longer.
Malmö's coach Jörgen Pettersson says the contracts are ground-breaking: "Earlier all clubs has worked with short contracts. This gives both the club and the players a security they've never had before."
