Swedish Cup: Moström scores in Umeå revenge

It was the quarterfinals in the Swedish Cup, but it is still seen as an opportunity to give your tired key players some rest and to try out the reserves, at least by some clubs. AIK fielded an almost unrecognisable starting eleven against a Bälinge with Mäkinen and Sembrandt missing. Göteborg started with Stensland and Schelin on the bench. Once again: if the clubs don't seem to care that much, why should we, the ticket payers?

AIK - Bälinge 4 - 1 (3-0)

AIK: Jenny Lundqvist - Anna Bohlin, Hanna Jöhnk, Camilla Ulander Nilsson, Madeleine Wedin - Anna Lundin (75 Madeleine Göras), Nazanin Vaseghpanah (70 Ingrid Bohlin), Lina Hedkvist (79 Jessica Julin), Linda Lekander - Sofia Simonsson, Freja Egebrant
Bälinge: Maja Åström - Mikaela Björklund (55 Emma Lindqvist ), Lina Andersson, Nina Engström, Petra Vaelma (71 Lisa Vikner) - Jenny Jansson (57 Alexandra Höglund), Heidi Matinlassi, Kacey White, Katri Nokso-Koivsto - Linda Blom, Anette Kent
Goals: 1-0 Camilla Ulander-Nilsson (35), 2-0 Nazanin Vaseghpanah (PK 37), 3-0 Sofia Simonsson (40), 3-1 Alexandra Höglund (82), 4-1 Linda Lekander (83)
Attendance: 102
A fairly uneventfull first 30 minutes was followed by 3 AIK goals in 5 minutes that decided the match; Ulander-Nilsson headed in a corner-kick, Vaseghpanah took the penalty shoot and Sofia Simonsson turned and shot from the edge of the area. Bälinge had problems getting back from that and AIK's mostly reserve team seemed thrilled getting the chance to play and show that they really should be starters.

Both sides played almost a little bit laid-back until they somewhere around the 60 minute mark began to realise that this was a cup match and couldn't end 0-0. Göteborg subbed in Schelin and Stensland, who immideately found each other and created a scare in Malmö's defense. But it was Malmö that could make use of the increased intensity in the match to get a 2-0 lead. When then Caroline Jönsson saved a Lotta Schelin penalty kick in the 79th minute the match was lost for Göteborg.

Örebro got a good telling-off by coach Holmlund after the home defeat against Malmö. It was deserved and it worked, said team captain Stina Segerström. Örebro was simply the better side the whole match, admitted Linköping's coach Daniel Pettersson. Still, both Örebro goals were made by defenders from set pieces and one of the keys to the victory was that Örebro goalkeeper Kristin Hammarström managed to out-shine Linköping's Lindahl.

Only a few days after Umeå's defeat to Sunnanå, the match was played in the village of Vilhelmina as part of the inauguration of a new football arena. It became obvious fairly early in the match, that the Sunnanå players were the ones suffering most from the weekand match, while Umeå seemed to have reghained their missing fighting spirit. Still Sunnanå managed to hold back Umeå for more than an hour, when Malin Moström, playing for the first time in her comeback, scored on a nice pass from Marta. The match was finally decided when Umeå got a questionable penalty following a Hanna Marklund tackle on Madeleine Edlund. "No other team than Umeå would have been awarded a penalty from something like that", commented an outraged Sunnanå coach after the match.
