What do you mean "It seems like that is what it takes" ? Which thing do you mean? Being 30, being established, or being near the end of their careers? Is this a thinly-veiled insult about our WPS' not so explosively successful pre-beginnings?



Fact is, 29-30 is far too young to retire.



The reason women quit soccer early is largely that they don't make enough money to rationalize such abnormal schedules for so long. And that is a big waste of world-class talent.



Even if I could NOT list 1000 examples of why age 30 is practically an extended adolescence of athletic ability (ultra-runner Diane Van Deren, 48, the most accomplished female endurance trail runner in the USA; Dara Torres a medalist at 41, et al), the bigger point is that the players you mentioned are all still bursting with world-class skill. What does age 30 have to do with it?



Forty is the new 30. And maybe Sweden is the new Brazil! Or is it that Brazil has become the new Germany... even though Germany is in recent decline? Wait. So that would mean that Germany is the new Norway, therefore Brazil= the old Norway?



Doesn't matter. Point is, it's not like we can only get players who are the twilight of their careers. And I can back that up as soon as 2010 comes around.
