A very friendly friendly in front of a decent crowd in nice summer weather. Umeå tried out a new midfield and let a lot of their teenagers earn useful international experience. Umeå kept up well with the Brazilians, that didn't really look like Olympic championship contenders in the first half. In particular the defense worked well. The musical chairs game of substitutions in the second half lowered both pace and quality in the game. Brazil scored twice in the second half, first Fabiana headed in a cross from Cristiane and then they changed roles for the second, Fabiana playing a deep pass on Cristiane's feet, who had an easy finish alone with the keeper.
Marta played 30 minutes in the first half for Brazil and then came on for Umeå in the second. Johanna Rasmussen left the pitch already after less than half an hour with a bloody nose following a run-in with Marta. No big deal, though, Johanna expects to be playing again in the repeat match on Sunday.
Umeå's player of the match was young Japanese Mami Yamaguchi, who worked hard and played simple in Umeå's midfield.
